Support and knowledge

Our mediators have years of experience in key areas such as emotional/mental health support, family law and financials. We are Registered Family Mediators that bring deep knowledge of the systems that govern and support family structures. Mediation is not a regulated profession in Alberta which means anybody can provide this service. Our mediators are highly trained and accredited and are additionally registered with an appropriate governing body (Alberta College of Social Workers) which monitor their practice annually.

Reducing your costs

We are intentionally structured as a low-cost model, purposefully creating efficiencies in our practice and process so we can pass this benefit directly on to you. As social workers are regulated under the Health Professions Act you may be able to claim all or part of your fees under your health benefit plan.

    Beth Thompson, BSW, RSW, RFM

    Beth knows that all families have the capacity to build new foundations for a positive future. For this reason, she is passionate about educating, enriching and empowering the people she serves. Beth facilitates cost effective resolutions that reflect each parties’ goals and concerns.

    A Registered Family Mediator with a specialization in Divorce and Separation, Beth provides mediation and coaching for families who are restructuring, including separation, divorce, co-parenting and blended families.

    As a Registered Social Worker, Beth has worked extensively in high conflict evaluation, parenting plans and positive communication. She is a licensed online parent coach for the New Ways for Families program through the High Conflict Institute.

    She enjoys leading the Alberta Justice Parenting After Separation/High Conflict and Focus on Communication in Separation workshops.

  • Susan Dedeluk

    Susan Dedeluk, B.Sc, RFM

    Susan is a Registered Family Mediator who is passionate about helping families move forward in the best (and least combative) way possible.

    Susan began her mediation career in 2002 with Alberta Justice, assisting families in provincial court as a Mediator, Family Court Counselor, and Caseflow Coordinator. Recognizing the need for accessible mediation for families hoping to avoid legal processes, court, and excess costs, she began Modern Divorce in 2012.

    Since then, Susan has worked with hundreds of couples, helping them negotiate and draft the terms of their separation agreements while simultaneously improving their communication and co-parenting relationships. Recently, her focus has shifted to working with clients one-on-one, helping them to prepare for (and supporting through) a separation.

    Susan has a special interest in assisting in the early stages of separation, using her experience and expertise to help people discuss and examine different possibilities for their future.

    Susan also offers support to stepparents and blended families as they navigate the special challenges associated with combining families.
